In this episode of Urban Sports Scene’s HBCU Corner, Wole sits down with Norfolk State University men’s basketball head coach Robert Jones to discuss the Spartans’ 2025–26 season and their upcoming MEAC Basketball Tournament matchup against South Carolina State.
Coach Jones reflects on Norfolk State finishing fourth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and what it will take for the Spartans to make a deep run in the MEAC Tournament and March Madness.
The Spartans enter the tournament after strong individual performances during the regular-season finale, including Devon Ellis leading Norfolk State with 22 points and Anthony McComb III surpassing the 1,000-career-point milestone. Norfolk State also picked up a key win over South Carolina State earlier this season, setting the stage for a highly anticipated rematch in the MEAC Tournament.
With March Madness implications on the line, Coach Jones shares insight into the Spartans’ preparation, the team’s mentality heading into tournament play, and what it means to represent Norfolk State and HBCU basketball on a national stage.
