The Washington Commanders and Miami Dolphins went head-to-head in a joint practice, and now attention turns to Washington’s 2026 NFL preseason opener Friday night at Northwest Stadium.
Donna Hopkins, Washington Commanders reporter from Tony McGee’s Pro Football Plus, (In the Minute) joins Wole to recap everything she saw while covering the Commanders-Dolphins joint practice and preview Washington’s first preseason game of the season against Miami.
The Commanders had encouraging moments on both sides of the football during the joint practice. Jayden Daniels looked sharp, Stefon Diggs and Terry McLaurin stood out during receiver/defensive back drills, and Washington’s defense consistently created pressure. Mike Sainristil delivered one of the biggest plays of practice with an interception returned for a touchdown.
Donna breaks down what stood out from the practice field and what Commanders fans should be watching when Washington faces Miami in live preseason action.
🏈 Topics include:
• Jayden Daniels’ performance against the Dolphins defense
• Jayden Daniels and Stefon Diggs continuing to build chemistry
• Terry McLaurin and Washington’s wide receiver room
• Antonio Williams and Treylon Burks making plays

The Commanders host the Dolphins Friday, August 14 at 7 PM ET at Northwest Stadium for Washington’s first preseason game of 2026.
Donna covered the joint practice in Ashburn and will also be at the Commanders-Dolphins preseason game covering Washington, giving us an on-the-ground perspective on the team as training camp transitions into preseason football.
